In remembrance of Owen Roizman ASC

Owen Roizman ASC - an American cinematographer who received five Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, for the films The French Connection, The Exorcist, Network, Tootsie, and Wyatt Earp

As a teenager in the 1970s, I was quite religious about seeing movies at the local cinema on the weekends.

I remember being captivated by movies like “The French Connection”, “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three”, “Network”  and the “Exorcist”. They all had a gritty realism that really was exhilarating as you were immersed completely in the stories.

It wasn’t until I was an aspiring cinematographer in the 1980s  I discovered that all these movies had a common thread. That was the cinematographer Owen Roizman ACS.

He went on to photograph many more great movies including “Tootsie”, “The Electric Horseman” and “Absence of Malice”.

He was a truly great cinematographer and his work continues to inspire me.
